Common questions · Vancouver Island

Frequently asked.

The questions patients ask most often before booking — about NAD+ IV, injectables, hormone optimization, GLP-1 weight loss, blood work, MyoActivation, and the practical details of NP-led care on Vancouver Island.

General & access to care

Do I need a doctor's referral to book?
No. As a Nurse Practitioner, Stephanie Eschak can independently assess, order labs, prescribe, and administer all services at the clinic under her own license. New patients book consultations directly via JaneApp or phone — no referral required.
What's the difference between a Nurse Practitioner and a physician for this type of care?
In British Columbia, Nurse Practitioners (NPs) have an autonomous scope of practice that includes ordering and interpreting labs, prescribing medications (including controlled substances and hormones), diagnosing conditions, and administering treatments like IV therapy. For the integrated aesthetic-and-wellness model at Juvenescence — where injectables, IV therapy, hormones, GLP-1, PRP, and pain care are coordinated under one license — an NP is uniquely positioned to deliver this scope without fragmenting care across multiple providers.
Is what you offer covered by BC MSP?
Standard bloodwork ordered by a Nurse Practitioner is generally covered under BC MSP. Visit fees, aesthetic procedures, IV therapy, hormone optimization consultations, and similar private services are not covered by MSP. Extended health benefits may reimburse a portion when the service is delivered by a Nurse Practitioner. Receipts are issued for submission. Patients should check with their benefits provider for specifics.
How far is the clinic from Nanaimo, Victoria, and Duncan?
Juvenescence Wellness is at 134 Cowichan Lake Road in Lake Cowichan, BC. Approximate drive times: Duncan, 25 minutes; Ladysmith, 40 minutes; Nanaimo, 1 hour; Victoria, 1 hour 15 minutes. Patients also travel from Powell River and across the Cowichan Valley.
What's the difference between NAD+ IV therapy in Nanaimo and Lake Cowichan?
Nanaimo has IV lounges offering NAD+, typically administered by Registered Nurses under a Nurse Practitioner's general oversight. At Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan, every NAD+ infusion is personally administered by Stephanie Eschak, Nurse Practitioner, from assessment through infusion, with no hand-off to nursing staff. It's about an hour's drive from Nanaimo — many patients make the trip specifically for that continuity of care. Full NAD+ IV details

NAD+, Iron, and IV Wellness

Where can I get NAD+ IV therapy on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan offers NAD+ IV therapy personally administered by Stephanie Eschak, Nurse Practitioner – never delegated to nursing staff. Single session from $220 CAD. Reduced rates through the VIVUS and AETAS IV Wellness Memberships. Full NAD+ IV details
How much does NAD+ IV cost on Vancouver Island?
Single 100mg NAD+ IV infusion: $220 CAD. Member rates: VIVUS ($219/mo) includes 100mg monthly plus additional doses at $35/100mg. AETAS ($315/mo) includes up to 200mg plus a Glutathione push. JUVENIS ($139/mo) adds NAD+ at $45/100mg.
Where can I get an Iron IV infusion without a long waitlist?
Juvenescence offers private NP-led iron IV infusion without the wait associated with hospital outpatient programs in Nanaimo, Victoria, or Cowichan District Hospital. Stephanie Eschak, NP, can order bloodwork, confirm iron deficiency, and administer iron IV under her own license. Full Iron IV details
Who is iron IV therapy for?
Iron deficiency anemia, heavy menstrual cycles, pregnancy and postpartum iron depletion, athletes with depleted ferritin, vegetarians and vegans with chronically low iron, post-bariatric surgery patients, those who cannot tolerate oral iron, and patients whose oral iron supplementation has failed to raise ferritin into a functional range.

Injectables & Thread Lifting

What's the difference between Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva, and Xeomin?
All four are Health Canada–approved botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators. Botox (Allergan) is the original. Dysport (Galderma) has slightly faster onset and diffuses more. Nuceiva (Evolus) is the newer option, sometimes called "Newtox." Xeomin (Merz) is a "naked" toxin without accessory proteins, sometimes preferred for patients concerned about long-term antibody response. Clinically all four are equivalent in mechanism. Full injectables details
How long does Botox actually last?
Average duration is 3 to 4 months, but actual duration varies based on individual biology: inflammation load, sleep quality, nutrient absorption, stress hormones, immune reactivity, and physical activity all influence how long results last. Two patients receiving the same dose can experience meaningfully different durations.
Where can I get a thread lift on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence offers NP-administered thread lift treatments using dissolvable medical-grade threads. A subtle non-surgical approach for early to moderate facial laxity. Full thread details
Can you correct overdone or migrated filler?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid–based dermal fillers can be dissolved using hyaluronidase. Patients unhappy with filler placed elsewhere can book a consultation to assess whether dissolution is appropriate before any new filler is placed.

Medical Weight Loss

Where can I get GLP-1 medical weight loss on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence offers a Nurse Practitioner–led GLP-1 program. The NP scope in BC permits prescribing and monitoring semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound). The program includes clinical intake, dose titration, monthly monitoring, muscle preservation strategy, and exit planning — not the volume-driven online-prescription model. Full weight loss details
What's the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Both are GLP-1 receptor agonists. Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) acts on GLP-1 alone. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors and has shown greater average weight reduction in clinical trials. Selection is individualized.

Hormones & Blood Work

Where can I get hormone optimization (BHRT) on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence offers NP-led hormone optimization — bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, perimenopause and menopause care, andropause, and integrated thyroid and cortisol management. The NP scope in BC permits comprehensive testing and prescribing. Full hormones details
Where can I get comprehensive blood work and lab panels?
Juvenescence offers NP-ordered comprehensive bloodwork — including markers BC family physicians often won't order through MSP: full thyroid (free T3, free T4, reverse T3, antibodies), comprehensive hormone panels, ferritin with functional targets, fasting insulin, hsCRP. Standard panels covered under MSP when ordered by an NP. Full blood work details
Can a Nurse Practitioner order bloodwork in BC?
Yes. NPs in BC have full authority to order, interpret, and act on lab results under the scope governed by BCCNM. NP-ordered labs are processed through standard BC providers (LifeLabs) the same way physician-ordered labs are. Standard panels are covered under BC MSP when ordered by an NP.

PRP & Skin Rejuvenation

Where can I get PRP therapy on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence offers NP-administered PRP therapy for hair restoration, skin rejuvenation, and intimate wellness. Blood is drawn, centrifuged, and re-injected on site. Full PRP details
Where can I get medical microneedling on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence offers NP-led microneedling using a medical-grade device. NP-led microneedling differs from spa-grade home rollers in depth, sterility, and the option to combine with PRP or medical-grade serums. Full skin rejuvenation details

MyoActivation®

Where can I find a registered MyoActivation® practitioner on Vancouver Island?
Stephanie Eschak, NP, at Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan is a registered MyoActivation® practitioner. The clinic serves chronic pain patients across the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Victoria, Ladysmith, and Powell River. Full MyoActivation details
Is MyoActivation® the same as acupuncture or dry needling?
No. While all three use fine needles, the frameworks and goals differ. MyoActivation® uses a specific structured assessment to identify fascial restrictions and scar restrictions contributing to pain, and treatment is guided by that assessment rather than by trigger point location or meridian theory.
