MyoActivation®.

A structured framework for chronic pain that doesn't start with the symptomatic site — it starts with where the restriction is.

A different starting question.

MyoActivation® is a structured assessment and intervention system developed by Dr. Greg Anderson in British Columbia. It is built on a clinical observation: much chronic pain doesn't originate at the symptomatic site. It originates from fascial restrictions, scar tissue, and movement compensations elsewhere in the body that the painful area is forced to absorb.

Treatment uses targeted needle interventions at identified restriction points — not at the spot that hurts, but at the spot that's pulling. When the restriction releases, the compensation pattern resolves, and the pain often resolves with it.

This is different from acupuncture and dry needling. All three use fine needles. The frameworks differ. MyoActivation® is guided by a specific structured assessment that maps restrictions to symptom patterns — not by trigger point location or meridian theory.

The session.

The first session begins with the MyoActivation® assessment — structured movement and palpation testing to map pain patterns, restrictions, and contributing scars. The framework is specific: every scar, every prior injury, every movement compensation is considered as a potential contributor.

Treatment uses fine needles placed at the identified restriction points. Sessions typically include movement reassessment between interventions to confirm what changed. A self-care component is provided to support sustained progress between sessions.

Many patients notice change within the first session. A typical course is 3 to 6 sessions spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart, with maintenance as needed.

Where it fits.

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain that hasn't resolved with massage, physiotherapy, or chiropractic alone.
  • Restricted mobility — shoulder, hip, neck, or back ranges that don't improve with stretching.
  • Pain associated with old scars — surgical, traumatic, or post-procedure.
  • Headaches with a cervical or muscular origin.
  • Post-injury movement patterns that have persisted longer than they should.
  • Patients who have tried multiple approaches without sustained resolution.

Suitability is established at the initial assessment based on history and clinical findings.

What is MyoActivation®?
MyoActivation® is a structured assessment and intervention system developed by Dr. Greg Anderson (BC, Canada) to address chronic pain. It is built on the observation that much chronic pain originates from fascial restrictions, scar tissue, and movement compensations rather than from the symptomatic site itself. Treatment uses targeted needle interventions at identified restriction points to release restrictions and allow normal movement patterns to return.
Where can I find a registered practitioner on Vancouver Island?
Stephanie Eschak, Nurse Practitioner at Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan, is a registered MyoActivation® practitioner. The clinic serves patients from the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Victoria, Ladysmith, and Powell River.
What does a session look like?
Sessions begin with a structured assessment — mapping pain patterns, movement restrictions, and identifying contributing scars or fascial restrictions. Treatment uses targeted needle interventions at the identified restriction points. The session typically includes movement reassessment and a self-care component to support sustained change.
Is MyoActivation® the same as acupuncture or dry needling?
No. While all three use fine needles, the frameworks and goals differ. Acupuncture works within traditional meridian theory. Dry needling targets trigger points. MyoActivation® uses a specific structured assessment to identify fascial restrictions and scar restrictions contributing to pain, and treatment is guided by that assessment rather than by trigger point location alone.
How many sessions will I need?
Many patients notice change within the first session. A typical course is 3 to 6 sessions spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart, with maintenance as needed. The goal is sustained resolution rather than indefinite treatment. The protocol is determined at the initial assessment based on the complexity of the presentation.
What conditions does it help with?
MyoActivation® is most commonly used for chronic musculoskeletal pain, restricted mobility, scar-related pain, post-surgical movement issues, headaches with cervical origin, and pain that has not responded to conventional approaches. Suitability is determined at the initial assessment.
