Iron IV infusion setup at Juvenescence Wellness — Nurse Practitioner-led iron infusion in Lake Cowichan, BC

Where can I get an Iron IV infusion on Vancouver Island?

Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan offers private Nurse Practitioner–led iron IV infusion — without the wait associated with hospital outpatient programs in Nanaimo, Victoria, or Cowichan District Hospital. Iron deficiency that's been managed with oral iron for months without ferritin improvement, heavy menstrual cycles depleting stores faster than supplements can replace, postpartum recovery, and athletes with chronically low ferritin are all common reasons patients book.

Stephanie Eschak, NP, can order bloodwork, confirm iron deficiency, and administer iron IV under her own license. No physician referral required. Recent bloodwork from another provider can also be used to inform planning.

Iron IV + Blood Panel
$150 CAD · Blood panel included
Includes a baseline blood panel (ferritin, iron studies, hemoglobin) to confirm deficiency and track response — not billed separately. Existing labs from another provider can also be used.

Where it fits.

  • Iron deficiency anemia — established by bloodwork showing low ferritin, low transferrin saturation, and often low hemoglobin.
  • Heavy menstrual cycles that deplete iron stores faster than oral supplementation can replace.
  • Pregnancy and postpartum — iron demand increases dramatically and oral iron alone often falls short.
  • Athletes with persistently low ferritin affecting performance and recovery.
  • Vegetarians, vegans, and patients post-bariatric surgery with chronically poor iron absorption.
  • Patients on oral iron for 3+ months whose ferritin hasn't moved into a functional range (typically targeting >50 ng/mL, sometimes higher).
  • Patients who cannot tolerate oral iron due to constipation, nausea, or other GI side effects.

The visit.

The first appointment is consultation and bloodwork review. Existing labs from another provider can be used, or new bloodwork can be ordered — standard iron studies are covered under BC MSP when ordered by an NP. Ferritin, transferrin saturation, and hemoglobin establish the baseline.

Once iron deficiency is confirmed, the infusion is planned. Infusion takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on the product selected, administered under NP supervision with monitoring throughout. Patients are observed briefly after completion before going home.

Iron stores and hemoglobin typically improve over 2 to 4 weeks. Follow-up bloodwork at 6 to 8 weeks confirms response. The underlying cause of deficiency is addressed in parallel so the result holds.

Where can I get an Iron IV infusion on Vancouver Island?
Juvenescence Wellness in Lake Cowichan, BC offers Nurse Practitioner–led iron IV infusion. Patients across Vancouver Island who would otherwise wait for hospital outpatient infusion programs in Nanaimo or Victoria can access private clinic infusion directly. The clinic serves the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Victoria, Ladysmith, and Powell River. No physician referral required.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. As a Nurse Practitioner, Stephanie Eschak can independently order bloodwork, diagnose iron deficiency, and administer iron IV therapy under her own license. New patients book a consultation directly. Bloodwork is reviewed before infusion; recent labs from another provider can also be used.
Who is iron IV therapy for?
Common indications include iron deficiency anemia, heavy menstrual cycles, pregnancy and postpartum iron depletion, athletes with depleted ferritin, vegetarians and vegans with chronically low iron, post-bariatric surgery patients, those who cannot tolerate oral iron, and patients whose oral iron supplementation has failed to raise ferritin into a functional range.
How is iron IV different from oral iron supplements?
Oral iron absorption is limited and often poorly tolerated (constipation, nausea, dark stools). Many patients fail to raise ferritin into a functional range with oral supplementation even at high doses. Iron IV bypasses the gut entirely, delivers a clinically effective dose in one session, and typically raises ferritin substantially within weeks. For patients who have been on oral iron for months without improvement, IV is usually the right next step.
Is iron IV covered by BC MSP?
The iron product itself may be covered by extended health drug plans. The administration fee at a private clinic is not covered by BC MSP but may be partially reimbursed by extended health benefits when administered by a Nurse Practitioner. The trade-off is access — hospital outpatient iron infusion waitlists on Vancouver Island can stretch months. Receipts are issued for benefits submission.
Is iron IV safe?
Modern iron IV preparations have a strong safety profile when administered with appropriate clinical assessment, dose calculation, and monitoring. Side effects, when they occur, are typically mild — temporary flushing, headache, or muscle ache. Serious reactions are uncommon but the protocol includes monitoring during and after infusion to address them if they occur.
